TEXTILE FOCUS

CURA-

        TED

A Curated Collection of fashion staples made in NYC focused on rich textiles.

The designer thinks of herself like a "curator" selecting one artist each season and creating a collection around that artist. From the colors, textiles to the silhouettes all aspects of the collection are inspired by the artists works. FALL 16 FEATURED ARTIST: JONATHAN GLASS

JONATHAN GLASS

Jonathan works primarily in the medium of pen and ink drawing and is also a painter and photographer. He discovered his penchant for drawing at age 10 and studied art in elementary and high school. He holds a BFA in Illustration from SUNY Buffalo where he was mentored by noted illustrator Alan E. Cober, who encouraged Jon to “journal” his experiences through sketching. Jon applied this concept and eventually found a niche in drawing musicians in live performance at jazz venues around New York City and in Chicago, New Orleans, and Paris. Jon’s jazz drawings have been presented at NYC music spots such as Jazz Gallery and Zinc Bar. He has become part of the fabric of the New York City jazz scene and counts a number of accomplished musicians among his friends. Jon’s work was featured in a two-person show, Chasing the Light, at Fountain Gallery and in a three-person show at Gallery New World Stages.

FEATURED SPRING 16 ARTIST: CHELSEA HRYNICK BROWNE

CHELSEA HRYNICK BROWNE

Discovered for her unique Kaleidoscope-conjuring creations, artist Chelsea Hrynick Browne has found the ideal outlet to utilize her training in fine art and mathematics.  Described as “obsessive detailed repetition”, Chelsea' handcuts paper into intricate patterns over and over again until the layers form a larger abstract “painting”. What begins as a precise form evolves into something interpretive, elusive and beautiful.

Browne’s work can currently be viewed in the Gramercy lounge Cibar where she created custom murals and lighting installation. This December, Browne’s work will fill the Flatiron Art Space with a snowflake-inspired exhibit.

JONATHAN MURPHY

Jonathan Murphy's (b.1980) practice assumes the vernacular language of traditional painting, sculpture and photographic techniques to generate a mise-en-scène type space where imagery is made and tested. His work engages with several notions of place, memory and spectatorship. The wall-based photographic prints he is currently making set in motion an evolving narrative space; the concerns of which, among other things, are the changing register of sculptural perception. The artist is editor of the online fanzine Nada/Da. He studied painting at The Slade School of Fine Art between 2000–2004 and lives and works in London.
